A musician walking off stage and failing to perform is nothing novel. It happens now and then, with multiple reasons given for it. Well, South African singer Kelly Khumalo has just joined the league of those who walked off stage and failed to perform.
The “Dance Comigo” singer was co-opted to headline the Jazz Mu Toropo Festival in Botswana but ended up not performing due to the poor sound system in use. She would note later that she is a professional and cannot do without quality equipment.
According to her manager, Nthabiseng, things didn’t fall into place and they had no option but to warn the organizers that she would not be performing as scheduled. he also noted that the singer has been receiving threats for not having performed as scheduled.
Her reluctance to perform had irritated the organizers. Kelly Khumalo herself had not said anything about her no-show – not on Instagram anyway. The singer recently announced she’s pregnant, drawing the attention of many across the Rainbow Nation.
The pregnancy had not kept her away from the stage, though. Only, this time, she failed to perform as scheduled. It remains to be seen what will follow next, as the organizers are allegedly pursuing legal avenues to seek redress.
