Bayer Leverkusen Targeting Benfica’s Grimaldo. Alejandro Grimaldo of Benfica is a target for Bayer Leverkusen.

After it became clear that they couldn’t sign Fran Garcia, Bayer Leverkusen reportedly sought to recruit Benfica’s Alejandro Grimaldo, who has been doing well in Portugal. Real Madrid recently acquired Garcia, who will join the team as its first addition for the upcoming campaign.

According to BeSoccer, the defender is in the news because teams like Juventus and Borussia Dortmund are interested in signing him. Xabi Alonso, a former head coach of the Madrid academy, intends for him to take part in their newest endeavors. Grimaldo has participated in 34 competitive games this season. He tallied five goals and seven assists for Benfica.

The 27-year-old Spanish football star has played as a left-back for the Primeira Liga club since he was signed in 2015. He played his first game with the team on January 26, 2016. Along with Dortmund’s Raphäel Guerreiro and Gladbach’s Ramy Bensebaini, Grimaldo is one of three left-backs in European football with a €20 million market value whose contracts are expiring.
