Zakes Bantwini On “Bayethe” Winning The Grammy With Nomcebo Zikode & Woulter Kellerman. The most recent South African to receive a Grammy award was Zakes Bantwini, whose triumph has drawn attention ever since the West gave him the scudetto.

It was recently covered in an interview he gave to Slikour as well.

Zakes Bantwini just won a Grammy for “Bayethe,” a song he wrote with fellow South African Nomcebo Zikode and renowned flautist Woulter Kellerman, in the category of Best World Music Performance.

He had mentioned in the interview that he had made a deliberate attempt to win the Grammy. He and his team decided to use their skills to create something in that approach after researching what the Grammys needed.

When they created the “Bayethe,” they made it a point not to send it to radio stations but to send it to the Grammys direct. Zakes Bantwini also noted that he had a hunch he would win, having put in the work. Well, the result is there for all to see.

On Burna Boy not winning the category despite having a more popular song (“Last Last”) nominated, Zakes Bantwini noted that the award wasn’t looking for popularity but for originality, ethnicity and others.
