Metro FM presenter Pearl Shongwe is dead. According to multiple sources, she died in her sleep in her Johannesburg home. Her family has since confirmed she’s no more.
In a statement following her death, her family had admitted its “great sadness” over her “untimely passing.” It also asked for privacy while it processes the loss. At the time of writing, the cause of death had not been given.
Her employer, the SABC, also confirmed the same news while stating it was a developing story with scanty details.
Since the news of her passing broke, peeps and even organizations familiar with her have been sharing their condolences. The red collective Economic Freedom Fighters (EFF) issued a statement via its verified Twitter channel, sending “condolences to the family, friends and colleagues of [the] Metro FM [presenter].” It also offered its prayers to the Shongwe family.
While the cause of her death is unknown, the police are actually in the process of investigating it. According to Col. Kweza, the Midrand police have already opened an inquest into her death, and it will assist in establishing what actually killed her.
By the way, there is no talk yet about a funeral. That would probably follow after the inquest or autopsy.
