Alec Baldwin to be charged with involuntary manslaughter over fatal ‘Rust’ shooting. After shooting film editor Halyna Hutchins on a set, actor Alec Baldwin will be charged with involuntary manslaughter.

In October 2021, Baldwin was practicing a scene for the Western movie Rust when Hutchins was fatally shot at a ranch outside of Sante Fe, New Mexico.

The movie’s armorer, Hannah Gutierrez Reed, will also face charges.

Both defendants’ attorneys, however, said that they will contest the allegations in court.

The accusations were made public on Thursday by Santa Fe’s district attorney Mary Carmack-Altwies, who also stated that they will be submitted before the end of the month.

Alec Baldwin, an actor and producer, and Hannah Gutierrez Reed, an armorer, will each face two charges of involuntary manslaughter, according to the statement. “I have decided that the evidence is adequate.”

If found guilty, everyone may spend up to 18 months in jail and pay a $5,000 (£4,040) fine. Prosecutors said that a jury will hear their case.

Joel Souza, the director of the movie, was also hurt in the shooting, but no charges will be brought against him, according to the prosecutors.

David Halls, the movie’s assistant director, pleaded guilty to a misdemeanor charge of careless use of a dangerous weapon, according to the prosecution. He will serve a six-month probationary period.

An attorney representing Ms. Hutchins’ husband, Matthew, said in a statement that his client agreed with the accusations being brought. The fact that no one is above the law in New Mexico is consoling to the family, he added.

Luke Nikas, Mr. Baldwin’s attorney, referred to the verdict as “a tragic miscarriage of justice.”

The statement made by Mr. Nikas was that “Mr. Baldwin had no reason to suspect there was a live bullet in the revolver or elsewhere on the movie set.” He trusted the experts with whom he collaborated since they promised him the rifle was empty of live ammunition. These accusations will be fought, and we will prevail.
